Nothing like having brain fluid pour out of your mouth and your nose..... uncontrollably. Nothing creepy about that at all! Of course it was one of my two fears going into surgery... note to The Universe, I asked NOT to have this.. you may have misheard me.
My wonderful doctors came to see me today, and Dr Sullivan, my neurosurgeon, told us that he was very aggressive in removing the peapod, which was right up against the edge of the cerebral spinal fluid "sack" (for lack of better words) and he caused a very large leak when removing the tumor. He was able to stop the leak, but he isn't surprised at all that I got another one.
By putting in the lumbar drain, they can divert the leak to your lower back and drain the fluid there, allowing the incision in you septum to heal and seal. This is also less invasive than going back for an additional surgery to repack your nose again. Mind you, if they put you back under, they take another fat graft which means less fat in my belly! But really would rather not have another surgery honestly.
So that means 4 more days in the hospital
for me, at least, until the hole in my head plugs up!
Just another bump in the road! Nothing stopping me from moving forward!
Well, that's a drag BUT...it's such a successful surgery, right?!
ReplyDeleteBTW Missy, your mistake may have been in expressing to the Universe that which you did NOT want! I learned around 28 when I was in labor. "I NEVER want to be catheterized OR have an amniocentesis!" BAM, both in one day!
You're doing GREAT Beautiful Bella! <3
you may be right... maybe I focusedo so much on the CSF leak that the Universe thought that's what I wanted. And I'd take the CSF leak if it means the tumor is gone
DeleteThat's the right way to think about it right there-- he went In deep and aggressive to get that thing out of you so hopefully you never have to do this again. And of course hopefully the the lumbar drain helps you heal quickly. I know you're miserable right now I'm just glad you're stable.
