Dr Sullivan and Dr McKean just stopped by to see me and talk about this leak. Because the CSF leak hasn't stopped yet, they are going to increase the amount of CSF being drained from 8cc's to 12cc's this morning. If I get headaches, they will drop it down to 10cc's. They want to monitor it for another several days, and unfortunately they leave tonight for a conference in Chicago and won't be back until Wednesday. They are hoping they don't need to go back in to plug the hole up again, if they do though, they can't perform surgery again until Thursday, though Erin said she could always come back sooner if need be.
The good thing is, though, that the leak has slowed considerably. I sat up straight talking to Dr Sullivan for at least 10 minutes and my nose didn't leak until I went to lay back down. And, when I went down for my CT Scan, I wasn't draining as bad. Today is definitely better than yesterday!
I forgot to ask if I'm leak-free while they are away, do I get discharged? Or do I wait for them to see me? Guess I just need to play it out...
My eyes have been pretty tired lately so I don't want to be online typing much.
There's a man here who has acromegaly that has his tumor removed yesterday. He's also from Michigan, and I would love to talk to him as I'm interested in possibly starting a Michigan support group. I guess I could ask my nurse to talk to him. Although I'm not sure if I'd want to see anyone looking like I do... I'm pretty scary looking!!! Maybe will just ask Dr Sullivan to send his Acromegaly patients a link to the page and see if they would join the group...
Its all about the waiting game with the leak. It is definitely better to stay there until it is completely fixed....although no fun. Sleep as much as you can....find silly stuff to watch....and let everyone pamper you!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm pretty OK but really want uninterrupted sleep!! Not leaking when I sit up today. Yeah

ReplyDeleteThere is another U of M patient from the Birch Run area & one from SE of A2 who might be interested. Glad to know you are noticing improvements in the CSF drainage & the headaches.
ReplyDeleteI love you to the moon and back and think about you day in and day out. Happy to hear things seem, to be getting better and hope it keeps going in that direction.

Oh Bella much love and hugs! Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, but my step-sister in VA had a heart attack and triple bypass. So I was down there taking care of her dogs, my dogs, her Mom. But all is good. And you Lady are in my thoughts and prayers every day. Hang in there and take it slow.
