My follow-up surgery to clean out the lively staph
infection in my knee was scheduled on October 5th at Henry Ford Macomb
Hospital with Dr. Scott. All conversations lead me to believe that this
would be an outpatient surgery, and I'd be home with my fur babies by
6pm.
When Dr. Scott came to see me to confirm that I had a staph infection,
and not MRSA, he let me know he wanted me to stay overnight for
observation.
The first thing that went through my head was MRSA? You thought i may have MRSA?? Honestly,
I've been so bummed, slightly upset, depressed about the fact that I
had to have a second surgery. Had Dr. Scott told me he suspected MRSA, I
would have been a hot mess!!!! So I'm quite grateful he didn't say that
out loud. I asked if i could go septic, but he assured me that that was
not a concern. I didn't think to ask about MRSA.
The surgery was successful from what I can tell. The
infection was cleaned out, the plastic spacer was replaced with a new,
slightly thicker spacer, pain is minimal, still quite swollen, the
crunching went away with the first surgery, and the lose gear feeling
and slippage seems to have improved greatly. So, the infection was a
blessing in disguise! AND i think my leak is no longer sprung!
By 5pm, I was checked me into my cute, single room with my
very sweet nursing staff. Mom and Bob came up to the room and hung out
for a while until mom got tired and needed to get home to sleep.
Today, 10/06, I finally met with the Infectious Disease
doctor about this staph infection. Turns out I need to have a PICC put
in for up to 6weeks. Although they cleaned out my knee, etc. it's very difficult to get rid of a staph infection. So now i have a 6 - 8 inch line in my arm leading into my chest
where they will start dowsing me with antibiotics and help kill this
infection!
Because I didn't know in was staying, I didn't bring my
CPAP, my work phone, my brace... so had to text my boss from my personal
phone to let everyone know I won't be able to work the majority on
Thursday, and sleep may be very very poor!! Guess I'll sleep when I get back to my folks' house! Just in case, I have asked the folks to bring my
CPAP, my work phone, and my To computer in case I need to stay another day. They say that until they can get my pain under control, I will need to stay at the hospital. let me tell you, this is the worst pain I have ever experienced! On a scale from 0-10, I have been at a 9.5 - 10 since 10am... and right now, it's 5pm, and i don't see it getting better yet.
To top it off, my hemoglobin is extremely low, 6.8g/dL (normal range is 12-15) so I am having a super hard time keeping my eyes open - not getting enough oxygen in my system, so put the pain on top of that, and my body feels like it's shutting down!!
On a side note, I wanted to write this past while
everything was fresh in my mind, but because I just posted about
Rebecca, I plan to wait to publish.
Oh my gosh Bella.... what a horrific time you are having.... You are such a strong girl and you don't deserve this.... Healing energy coming your way and do hope they are able to reduce your pain and make you comfortable.
