Every patient has reported increase in shoe size as well as width. After surgery, some have reported that their shoe size went down after time. Most have not.
In 2004, I was wearing an 8.5m... by Fall 2004, I was wearing a size 9.... by 2006/2007 I was up to a 9.5m... my first pair of hiking shoes I bought before moving to Utah were 9.5... within 1 year, I would order 2 pair of shoes from Zappos, one a size 9.5 and the other a 10.... by 2008/2009... I was ordering 10, 10.5 (when they had them) and 10w... By 2015, I was ordering 10w, 11 and if they had them, 11w... each time, I would send back the smaller size. Thank goodness for free returns!! But, it did earn me VIP membership pretty quick at Zappos!!
My feet were getting flatter, fatter and puffier by the year... It was like walking have lead-filled balloons. In 2014, my feet started heating up at night, so bad that I could not sleep with my feet covered. I even bought special socks that you can put ice packs in to cool my feet down so I could sleep... all that did was heat up the ice packs!
At the time, everyone kept telling me that it was because I was gaining
weight - when you get fatter, they said, your feet can get fatter too.
Little did we know that I had a tumor growing on my pituitary gland!
Since Operation Peapod Extraction, my shoes fit much better, my feet are no longer puffy, my kankles are almost gone, my "pancake" feet are smaller than they were before, and my feet are no longer on fire at night... Unfortunately, I am still wearing a 10w - but then again, I haven't tried anything smaller since surgery. Although, my Reefs look too long for my feet now - so maybe!
Maybe someday, I won't need to wear wide shoes, but for now, I'm just happy I no longer have to stuff these piggies into shoes that are too tight while I dream of wearing flip flops all year long, snow or not, just so my feet feel good in their shoes!
Hurrah...improvements of the best kind!
ReplyDeleteGood for you!
ReplyDelete9 to 11 for me..was worried 11 would become small soon. But after surgery it seems to be 11 only plus less swelling. also hands and wrists..my watch keeps slipping with the dial below the wrist!
Thanks!! I was hoping my feet would go down - but alas, only less puffy and painful now.. At least it does not feel like I am walking on needles anymore!! Happy you feet stopped growing!!

I'm glad to hear that your pain has stopped, and hopefully by now, your shoe size has decreased even more! I often notice that certain brands sell more narrow-sized shoes than others. My feet are also flat and wide. I find that New Balance and Vans sell wider width shoes. Unfortunately, I've been the same shoe size since pre-diagnosis. I’ve also had excessive weight gain post-op, and am currently trying to shred the pounds off with strict dieting.
